Prince William is already sowing the seeds of his reign as his cancer-stricken father King Charles continues to receive treatment.

While the King reportedly supports the training of the heir to the throne, William is one step ahead of his father. Previously, the future king had shared his plans about what he wants the monarchy to look like during his reign – describing royals with a ‘small r’.

According to royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams, William different approach may actually be a better fit in the modern era of the monarchy.

“As heir to the throne, Prince William will inherit a role which he could be called upon to fill at any time,” Fitzwilliams told The Daily Mail.

“He has already established a reputation for diplomacy as the monarchy, both in the era of Queen Elizabeth and especially more recently in the unpredictable era of Donald Trump, is pivotal in Britain’s use of soft power.”

The expert pointed out that William wants to “change things and modernise aspects of the monarchy” but he will maintain “relevant traditions”.

William became the Duke of Cornwall after King passed on his title to his son following the ascension to the throne in 2022. He has since made plans to change lives by “combating homelessness and having a positive impact on the lives of farmers”.

“His promotion of environmental issues is more relatable than the campaigning, admirable though it has been, of his father, who has given so many dire forecasts about the effects of climate change,” Fitzwilliams continued.

“William's Earthshot Prize emphasises the positive and the importance of tackling it with inventions and rewarding those who create them. Throughout his time as a working royal, William has showcased his down to earth attitudes on multiple occasions.”

Charles is also supporting his son in his ventures with subtle show of support and delegating responsibilities to him.

The Prince of Wales rode in the first carriage with the King and Queen during the second day of Royal Ascot on Wednesday after Kate Middleton had pulled out last-minute. The King appeared in high spirits alongside his son despite abdication rumours picking up the pace again.
