David Beckham holds back tears as King Charles confers knighthood
King Charles makes David Beckham 'emotional' with 'humbling' honour
David Beckham made a first heart-touching statement after he received a prestigious honour, a knighthood, from King Charles.
In this year's Birthday Honours, the monarch conferred the former English captain with a title close to his heart.
David, who is known for his skills as a world-class footballer, has been engaged in projects and initiatives supporting sports and different charities.
As per Hello! Magazine, Victoria Beckham's husband revealed that it is an 'emotional' experience for him and his family in a new message.
He said, "Growing up in East London with parents and grandparents who were so patriotic and proud to be British, I never could have imagined I would receive such a truly humbling honour."
"To have played for and captained my country was the greatest privilege of my career and literally a boyhood dream come true."
"Off the pitch, I have been fortunate to have the opportunity to represent Britain around the world and work with incredible organisations that are supporting communities in need and inspiring the next generation."
David said that he is beyond 'grateful' to be recognised for incredible work that gives him "so much fulfilment."
"It will take a little while for the news to sink in but I'm immensely proud and it's such an emotional moment for me to share with my family," he concluded.
It is important to note that Sir David shared a special relationship with royals including, King Charles and Prince William, especially since he became the ambassador of The King's Foundation.
