Princess Anne is taking the reins for her brother, King Charles — so to speak.
The Princess Royal, 74, will ride her horse this weekend for Trooping the Colours, marking her triumphant return to horseback riding ever since her riding accident that landed her in the hospital last year.
In her role as Gold Stick, Colonel of the Blues and Royas, Anne will mount her horse to participate in the King’s Birthday Parade on Saturday, June 14. An expert equestrian for decades, Anne participates in the annual tradition each year. And this year is no different.
In June 2024, Anne reportedly met with a horse-related accident at her Gatcombe Park estate in Gloucestershire. She had a mild concussion and minor head injuries and spent five days admitted in Southmead Hospital in Bristol.
She later admitted she couldn’t “remember a single thing” from the incident.
Meanwhile, her brother King Charles will not ride horseback this year despite participating in the annual military parade for years.
Though the 76-year-old enthusiastically revived the “monarch on horseback” tradition in 2023, his ongoing cancer treatment means he will instead have to ride a carriage again, as he did last year.
