Buckingham Palace issues update as King Charles makes prominent appearance with Duchess of Edinburgh
Duchess Sophie, who has been taking on more prominent responsibilities on behalf of King Charles, was invited by the monarch to attend a special event.
Buckingham Palace on Saturday issues a statement and update after the King and the Duchess of Edinburgh made an appearance at the opening of the 118th Royal Windsor Flower Show.
“The King, as Patron, and The Duchess of Edinburgh were at the Royal Windsor Flower Show this morning!” the statement read.
“The theme for this year’s show, held at Windsor Great Park, is ‘Patterns in Nature’ inspired by His Majesty’s book ‘Harmony: A New Way Of Looking At Our World’,” it continued.
“The Duchess was joined by gardener Alan Titchmarsh, who is Honorary President of The Royal Windsor Rose & Horticultural Society, to officially open the Show.”
The event, which was organised by The King’s Foundation, was one-day celebration also honouring the previous reining monarchs who has the patronage of the flower show. It was founded by Queen Victoria in 1892.
Prince Edward’s wife showed her support to her brother-in-law and also greeted him with a delightful curtesy which won over fans. Notably, Queen Camilla did not accompany Charles despite attending previous flower show events with her husband.
The presence of Sophie alongside the King to mark the significant event is a clear indication of the crucial role the 60-year-old royal plays in the Charles’s reign.
Moreover, royal experts have dubbed Sophie as the “secret weapon” for King Charles given her loyalty and dedication to the Crown.
The outing came just a day after Sophie had accompanied William to the Duchy of Cornwall for the Royal Cornwall Show.
