King Charles honours Duchess Sophie as performs key task for UK
Palace issues update after Duchess Sophie makes important appearance: 'UK’s first major' event
The Duchess of Edinburgh was honoured with a special statement as she undertook an important task on behalf of King Charles.
Prince Edward’s wife made a sombre appearance on Wednesday to attend a significant exhibition representing a cause she had long-advocated for.
The office of the monarch issued a statement about the 60-year-old royal’s engagement following the event, which was the first of its kind held in the UK.
“The Duchess of Edinburgh visited the new exhibition ‘Unsilenced: Sexual Violence in Conflict’ at the Imperial War Museum, London,” it stated.
“‘Unsilenced’ is the UK’s first major exhibition dedicated to highlighting this important and under-reported subject.”
It added, “Her Royal Highness has long-championed the @unitednations’ Women, Peace and Security agenda and the UK’s Preventing Sexual Violence in Conflict Initiative, working to elevate the voices of survivors, peacebuilders, and children born of wartime sexual violence.”
The statement also noted that the Duchess’s international visits have included Kosovo, Sierra Leone, South Sudan, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Ukraine and Chad.
The message concluded with the announcement that the free exhibition at IWM London runs until November 2025.
The Duchess of Edinburgh has been taking a much more prominent role in King Charles’s reign ever since the monarch was diagnosed with cancer.
During the tough time for the royal family, when the King and Kate Middleton were going through their health struggles, Sophie played a crucial role in taking in responsibilities in the absence of the senior most royals.
Sophie has been dubbed as the King’s ‘Secret weapon’ for monarchy given her dedication and loyalty to the Crown.
