Queen Elizabeth’s true reaction to Princess Lilibet name finally revealed
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s exit in 2020 had caused stirred quite a bit of drama in the royal family and one of the antics by the couple was deeply felt by the late Queen Elizabeth.
The name of the Sussexes’s daughter, Princess Lilibet, had been a point of contention for a long time and had reportedly left the matriarch furious about the name choice.
Previously, Robert Hardman claimed in his book that late Queen was “as angry as ever” when Harry and Meghan issued a statement claiming the matriarch was “supportive” of the couple choosing her childhood nickname for their daughter.
Harry and Meghan’s daughter, who was born on June 4, 2021, is named Lilibet Diana Mountbatten-Windsor.
While the Palace did not make a comment on the matter when BBC ran the story, new details have now emerged detailing what went down during as Harry and Meghan met the Queen.
A royal source revealed to DailyMail that Harry and Meghan only made the Queen aware of their intentions.
“Harry and Meghan presented this to the Queen as: ‘We’re going to call her Lilibet. Isn’t that great,” the insider said. “The palace version was that they didn’t ask.”
They continued, “The Queen was asked to prop up their version of events that didn't match her own. She wasn't furious about using the name Lilibet, it was the way it was handled.”
When the BBC claimed that the Sussexes had “never asked” for the late Queen’s permission to use “Lilibet”, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex issued a threatening letter as they called it “false and defamatory”.
