Jill Sobule dies in house fire at 66
Jill Sobule, the iconic 1990s singer, has died at the age of 66 due to a house fire in Woodbury, Minnesota.
The American singer-songwriter, who garnered recognition in the music industry for her hit tracks, passed away on Thursday, May 1.
According to emergency services, the house was fully engulfed in flames when they arrived. Police later confirmed that Sobule was found dead inside the structure
This tragic news was announced by the singer’s publicist, David Elkin on Thursday afternoon via email.
Sobule’s fellow artists and admirers couldn’t hold back and expressed their sorrow and condolences.
Her manager, John Porter, said, “Jill Sobule was a force of nature and human rights advocate whose music is woven into our culture. I was having so much fun working with her. I lost a client & a friend today. I hope her music, memory, & legacy continue to live on and inspire others.”
Taking to social media, American actress Carrie Coon shared her thoughts on the singer’s sudden passing writing, “Jill Sobule was so special. Heartbreaking news.”
Tracy Chapman also paid tribute by sharing a photo from 2001 with the Supermodel hitmaker on her X (formerly Twitter) handle.
Tracy, 61, tweeted, “We are deeply saddened to hear of the tragic passing of Jill Sobule. Let us listen to her music to honor the wonderful singer-songwriter she was.”
Over a career spanning three decades, Sobule released 12 albums on complex themes.
The late singer launched her music career with the debut album Things Here Are Different in 1990.
