Fresh off being announced as the host of the 2025 Emmy Awards, celebrated comedian Nate Bargatze laid bare shocking decisions about career future.
The 46-year-old stand-up powerhouse, who was the highest grossing touring comic of 2024, revealed he’s not planning to stay on the stage forever instead might go behind the camera.
"I don't plan on touring and doing stand-up forever. I want to make movies," Bargatze told The New York Times in a new interview, adding that his creative choices are always made with is audience in mind. "People can think, If you get too big, are you going to change? The audience is very much in mind with everything that I will make."
With five acclaimed specials under his belt, including hits on Netflix and Amazon Prime, two turns hosting Saturday Night Live and a Grammy nomination, Bargatze is now ready to pivot, allowing the next generation to take over the comedy world.
"The next special will be on Netflix. I could see maybe one more special after that. I don't want to overstay my welcome," he continued. "I also want to get out of the way. I need to let the next wave of comedians come up."
From humble beginnings on Comedy Central Presents in 2011 to selling out arenas nationwide, Bargatze has now a major hosting gig on the horizon.
Known for his deadpan and monotonous delivery, Bargatze will take the stage at the Peacock Theatre in Los Angeles on Sunday, September 14, to lead the 77th Primetime Emmy Awards.
