Why Angelina Jolie didn't press charges against Brad Pitt after 2016 allegation
Angelina Jolie split from Brad Pitt in 2016 after an alleged plane incident, yet their divorce was finalised 8 years later
Angelina Jolie made a deliberate decision to stay silent about the alleged events that led to her 2016 split from Brad Pitt, prioritising her family’s healing over public exposure.
According to a source speaking to People magazine, Jolie could have taken a different route but chose not to.
“She could have pressed charges against him. She could have told the world what happened. She didn’t,” the insider shared. “All she wanted was for Brad to get the help he needed and for their children to heal.”
The split followed an alleged private plane incident in which Pitt was accused of being intoxicated and abusive toward Jolie and their children. While authorities investigated the claims, no charges were filed, and Jolie refrained from pursuing legal action.
In 2022, further details of the alleged altercation surfaced during the former couple’s legal battle over their winery.
Pitt’s camp, meanwhile, denied the claims, calling them “completely untrue.”
For Jolie, the focus has always been her children. Her attorney, James Simon, emphasised that since leaving her shared properties with Pitt in 2016, she has worked tirelessly to foster peace and healing for her family.
A source close to the actress added, “This part is finally over, but the process has taken a toll on her.”
