James Van Der Beek has never felt unconditional love like this before.
Amid his ongoing battle with colorectal cancer, he expressed immense gratitude for his wife Kimberly’s persistent love and support.
During his appearance on Good Morning America on Tuesday, the actor teared up as he spoke about his wife’s constant support throughout his health journey.
"She’s been amazing. She’s really taught me what unconditional love is," he said, as his voice trembled.
"I’m someone who’s always tried to do everything for everybody and never asked for help myself, and this has put me in a position of having to ask for help, and having to receive help."
"And the beautiful blessing of that has been seeing how many people in my life have shown up," the actor continued.
The Dawson's Creek alum admitted that his diagnosis was "really scary" for the family and that everyone had found different ways to cope with the news.
The father of six explained that kids expressed their concerns in various ways, with some being vocal about their fears, while others became quieter or displayed their emotions through behavioural changes.
He revealed that his diagnosis was particularly challenging for his kids because they were already mourning the passing of a close friend who had succumbed to a rare brain tumour.
"There was a lot of cancer talk flying around and a lot of it was really scary. But they’re doing great."
