Lizzo faces fury over private jet use in Detroit
Lizzo's contradiction in her words and actions sparks intense debate
Lizzo's recent appearance at a Democratic event in Detroit, where she endorsed U.S. presidential candidate Kamala Harris, has sparked intense criticism.
The singer's decision to arrive via private jet has been labeled hypocritical, given her message of supporting a city struggling with economic hardships.
On social media, Lizzo shared a video of herself boarding the luxury plane, saying, "This is how a bad b** saves democracy. You ho's couldn't even spell democracy."
However, fans and critics quickly pointed out the stark contrast between her lavish travel and her advocacy for a city grappling with poverty.
"This is rich coming from someone who flew in on a private jet," one fan commented. Others echoed similar sentiments, with comments like, "Brags about Kamala turning the whole country into a poverty-stricken Detroit - struts onto a private jet to prove she knows nothing about poverty" and "Most Americans can't afford their groceries, Lizzo. But go ahead and board your private jet."
At the event, held at Western International High School, Lizzo spoke passionately about her pride for her hometown.
"They say if Kamala wins, the whole country will be like Detroit. Proud like Detroit, resilient like Detroit," she declared. However, her remarks stirred up further controversy online.
Some social media users highlighted Detroit's history of economic decline, high crime rates, and troubled reputation. One critic posted, "If Kamala is elected, the whole country will look like Detroit. A decimated car industry. A top ten city in crime statistics."
Despite the backlash, Lizzo stood firm in her support for Harris, referring to the Vice President as "my President" in a social media post. The event included a brief performance by Lizzo, who sang her hit About Damn Time at the crowd's request.
