Emilia Pérez director Jacques Audiard recently revealed that Selena Gomez charmed him at a New York City café.
In response to a question about the former Disney actor’s skills and her popularity across borders, Audiard talked about knowing the songstress from her time on A Rainy Day in New York and Spring Breakers.
He said: “I was completely unaware of it. I'm not familiar at all with this social network, Instagram, TikTok generation. I have no access to all of that.
"I knew her from Spring Breakers and the Woody Allen film she played in, [A Rainy Day in New York]. I just wanted to work with her for that," the auteur explained.
Recounting the instance when he first met her in a café, the director said he had a sudden epiphany to cast her in the film at the moment.
“And when I met her in New York one morning in a café, I just knew instantly that I wanted to work with her,” he added.
For the unversed, Jacques described the film as “soap-opera and a musical comedy,” led by Zoë Saldaña, Selena Gomez, and Karla Sofía Gascón.
