Justin Baldoni, who is director and star in the upcoming adaptation of It Ends With Us, addressed some of the burning concerns of the fans regarding the age of the characters.
Baldoni explained to The Hollywood Reporter that the reason why they aged the characters in the adaptation of Colleen Hoover’s best-selling novel was the author herself.
“Originally Colleen had written this over 10 years ago, and it was a time when everyone was writing YA and she wanted the characters to be older,” he told the outlet.
“For us, it was just more about making the story more universal, because this isn’t just a story about a young woman, it’s a story about women, and it does not discriminate.”
He continued, “So, for us it was more about making sure that as many people as possible could understand and relate to the characters and what Lily was experiencing.”
Apart from Baldoni, the film stars Blake Lively and Brandon Sklenar in lead roles.
When the book starts out, Lively’s character, Lily Bloom, is just 23. Meanwhile, Lively herself is 36, alluding that her character has also been aged.
