Madonna performed at the beach as her last stop of Celebration tour
Madonna lighted up Rio de Janeiro, enthralling an audience of about 1.6 million at free beach concert on Saturday, May 4.
The 65-year-old Queen of Pop performed songs, including Like a Prayer, Vogue and Express Yourself for over two hours, wounding up the greatest hits tour that began last year.
Referring to the city’s huge mountain top Christ the redeemer statue, Madonna said: “Rio, here we are, in the most beautiful place in the world, with the ocean, the mountains, Jesus.”
The crowd showed up in batches, with more than three thousand police officers deployed to watch around the concert area.
Marking Madonna’s final stop on her Celebration Tour, the concert noted her 40 years dominating the pop charts.
Ahead of the show, fans were spotted dancing and grooving to the pop star’s songs.
Speaking of Madonna’s influence, one fan commented: “I’m a mess, I haven’t slept well, I’ve been listening to Madonna all week.”
While another gushed, speaking highly of the singer: “Madonna helped me leave the Catholic Church, think about many things and change my relationship with my family.”
