Charlie Puth humbly returns Taylor Swift's favour: 'My friend called Hero'
Taylor Swift gives a special mention to Charlie Puth in the title track of her 11th studio album
Charlie Puth is grateful for Taylor Swift's acknowledgement!
Just a few days after Swift, 34, named him in a song on her new album The Tortured Poets Department, Puth, 32, teased a new song on TikTok on Friday, May 3.
“These last couple weeks have been really crazy for obvious reasons, but I wanted to share something with you,” the See You Again artist wrote over a clip of himself singing along to his new song.
“This is a song I wrote about my friend called ‘Hero.’ Sometimes I get a little nervous being overly honest in my music which is why this was sitting on my hard drive for awhile," Puth continued. "But I think someone out there was giving me a sign that I needed to release it."
"So… I declare ‘Hero’ will be out everywhere on May 24th as the first single of my new album. Thank you for your support… you know who you are,” Puth added.
In the title track of her 11th studio album, Swift pays homage to the musician. The album was released on April 19.
Swift makes lighthearted fun of a past romantic interest in the song by comparing himself to great poets and expressing a like for antique typewriters.
"You smokеd, then ate seven bars of chocolate / We declared Charlie Puth should be a bigger artist," she sings on the track, making a reference to the We Don’t Talk Anymore singer.
Swifties were quick to notice the allusion and rushed to Puth's TikTok comment section as soon as he revealed the trailer for Hero.
“We declare that Charlie Puth should be a bigger artist,” one person wrote. Another added, “You look a lot like Charlie Puth. He should be a bigger artist.”
Pointing out Puth’s own lyrics, a fan debated, “‘you know who you are’ is an iconic reference.”
