Queen Camilla is reportedly helping King Charles come to terms with the idea of stepping down as monarch to direct his full attention to his health.

The 75-year-old monarch is understood to be weighing his options about giving up the crown to his eldest son Prince William after being diagnosed with “a form of cancer” earlier this month.

Royal experts have since offered their opinions on the situation, urging Charles to let William take the helm during his lifetime.

The King initially ascended to the throne last year after serving the monarchy as Prince of Wales under his mother late Queen Elizabeth for over seven decades.

Hence, a source explained to In Touch that “the idea that he won’t get to make his mark as king is a hard pill to swallow”.

In this trying time, Charles is understood to be leaning on his Queen Consort, who is slowly warming him up “to let [the throne] go and enjoy their golden years,” the insider shared.

“It also helps that Charles has a lot of confidence in William and Kate,” they explained, “and in the end, he’s doing what’s best for the monarchy.”
