2023 Emmys delayed to next year amid actors, writers' strike

The 2023 Emmy Awards have been pushed back nearly six months in the wake of the ongoing writers’ and actors’ Hollywood strikes.

The Television Academy and Fox announced that the historic 75th Emmy Awards will now air in January 2024 in lieu of their traditional airing in September.

“As the Emmy Awards celebrates its 75th Anniversary, the show will broadcast live on FOX coast-to-coast from the Peacock Theater at LA Live and will honor the talented performers, writers, directors and craftspeople whose work has entertained, inspired and connected viewers across the globe throughout the past year,” a Fox press release read.

The date change for the event isn’t unanticipated – vendors for the event revealed to Hollywood trade publications last month that they had been told to stay vigilant over any announcements about a date change.

This year’s Emmy nominations are led by Succession, The White Lotus, Ted Lasso, and The Last of Us.

Writers and Actors are currently on a strike against Hollywood production houses and studio execs over their unmet demands of better pay, work environment, and protection against the looming threat of artificial intelligence.

In an unexpected statement earlier this week, Disney CEO Bob Iger affirmed he is “personally committed” to coming up with a solution to meet the demands of the creative artists and put an end to the strike.
