KARACHI: Pakistan International Airline (PIA) incurred heavy losses of Rs4.312 billion as a result of the employees’ protests and strike.
The first meeting of the national flag carrier’s board of directors was held here under its Chairman and Secretary Aviation Irfan Elahi on Monday.
The meeting was informed that the airline’s office remained closed from January 26 to February 9 and consequently the institution had to incur losses amounting to Rs4.312 billion.
The suspension of flight operations and provision of hotel accommodation to the passengers caused losses of Rs2.83 billion.
The airline suffered a loss of Rs1.23 billion due to the return of tickets while other losses amounted to Rs250 million.
Hence, the total amount of losses added up to Rs4.312 billion.
The board of directors have ordered the PIA’s administration to identify those who are responsible for theses losses. They also directed for making these losses good.
