PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtun-khwa Chief Minister Pervez Khattak on Monday ordered a ban on manufacturing and use of polythene shopping bags that cause choking of sanitation system and environmental degradation.
A handout stated the ban would be implemented after two months and during this period all stock of the plastic bags would be removed from markets and the factories. The chief minister also ordered launching of an active and uncompromised drive for checking substandard food items. He directed the authorities concerned to involve elected local councillors and local community members in the process.
Issuing orders for solving problems of PK-3 in a meeting of a 25-member delegation from the constituency, the chief minister asked the Pesco to remove electric poles and other installations from the retrieved lands during the anti-encroachment drive inside the city by August 20th next and also complete electrification schemes of 34 Public Health tubewells in Peshawar.
