LAHORE
Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) ameer Senator Sirajul Haq has said the West is more afraid of Hijab than a nuclear bomb and wants to wipe out all signs of Islamic culture and civilisation in order to check the advance of Islam.
Addressing a Hijab conference organised by JI women wing on Thursday, Sirajul Haq said the colonial powers had launched a cultural attack on Muslim Ummah and were targeting Islamic signs and symbols, especially the honour of Holy Prophet (PBUH), moral values, Jihad, family system and Hijab and extremism, fanaticism and terrorism were being linked with Islam. In France, Holland, and Denmark, Hijab had been banned while the girl students and Muslim women wearing Hijab were being ridiculed, he added.
Sirajul Haq said modesty was human nature and Islam attached great importance to it. Islam had declared Hijab as a means of protection for the women and had given them great respect in society. He said those who went astray from the Islamic teachings and norms would only earn disrespect and ignominy in the world and the hereafter. He said women must get the right to vote. He said it was the government duty to provide the womenfolk all facilities to lead their lives in accordance with Islamic teachings.
Sirajul Haq said Hijab was not merely a piece of cloth to cover heads. It is a part of a complete moral system that encompassed the whole life of the Muslim women, he said and added that the Islamic system of life gave purity and modesty to society. Islam gave the concept of women’s freedom fourteen hundred years ago, he said, adding it was the standard of dignity and respect given by Allah Almighty and it was not the sign of any pressure or any compulsion. It also did not mean any sign of backwardness. On the other hand, Hijab was the right of the women and was a source of pleasure and protection for them.
He urged the media to project Hijab as a security and protection for the women and not a sign of any pressure. The media should highlight the culture of modesty and Hijab and the doors of educational institutions should not be closed to for the women wearing Hijab. The JI chief called for across the board accountability of the rulers both of past and the present.
