MQM activist to face more grilling

An anti-terrorism court (ATC) on Friday granted officials of the Mubina Town police station more time to interrogate Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) activist Umair Siddiqui.
Already on remand for the murder of a Rangers official in 2010, the court further extended his remand pertaining to the case till July 24, while also allowing the IO to hold him on an 11-day physical remand for the alleged murder of a man named Hussain Gabol, in 2012.
Siddiqui, a member of the MQM’s election cell was currently on trial for several cases of target killings including of two men in Gulshan-e-Maymar, former lawmaker Faisal Raza Abidi’s security guard Shahid Hussain and senior MQM leader Amir Khan’s nephew Sabeehullah.
He was also alleged to have killed fellow party activist Tahir alias Nadeem SP among others.
According to Rangers personnel Siddiqui had during interrogation admitted being involved in killings of 68 people; however, they believe the accused was involved in the murders of at least 120 people.
