Two shot dead in district courts

An under trial prisoner was shot dead by his opponent at the Judicial Complex Rawalpindi here on Wednesday. The shooter was also killed by the relatives of the under trial prisoner on the spot. According to police, four under trial prisoners including Matiullah Raheem, Ahsen Ali and two others were being brought before Additional District and Sessions Judge Nadia Ikram in a murder case 208 under section 302 with Civil Lines Police Station registered in 2015.

However, their opponent Sattar Khan, resident of Dhoke Khabba, opened fire on Matiullah Raheem. The relatives of Matiullah overpowered Sattar Khan, snatched his pistol and shot him dead on the spot. Matiullah, who had suffered serious wounds was rushed to the District Headquarters Hospital but he succumbed to his injuries.

Regional Police Officer (RPO) Fakhar Visal, City Police Officer (CPO) Israr Abbasi and other high ranking police officials also rushed to the court.

Superintendent of Police (SP) Potohar Muhammad Ali while talking to media men said that two persons were killed due to firing incident at the judicial complex. “We are investigation as how Sattar Khan was able to bring two pistols in judicial complex,” he said. He said that Punjab Forensic Laboratory has also arrived at district court to collect evidence.

District Bar Association (DBA), Rawalpindi President Khurram Kiani has strongly criticised the incident in judicial complex. He has demanded full inquiry as how a man was able to bring weapons in judicial complex while more than 50 police officials were deputed all around the court. “The incident happened due to security lapse, he claimed. Rescue 1122 ambulances reached the spot to shift injured persons and the dead body to DHQ Hospital for post-mortem.
