PPP demands KP CM’s resignation over Kohistan corruption scandal
ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Peoples Party Parliamentarians (PPP-P) has demanded immediate resignation of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur in the wake of Kohistan corruption scandal, citing the need for an impartial and pressure-free investigation.
“For justice to prevail, the chief minister must step down immediately to ensure that the inquiry is conducted without the influence of official authority,” said PPP-P Secretary General Syed Nayyar Hussain Bukhari in a strongly worded statement on Wednesday.
“This is the so-called change? Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has been turned into a hub of corruption,” Bukhari remarked. “Those claiming to eradicate corruption have instead facilitated it. Public resources meant for development have been diverted to fill personal coffers,” he added.
He also criticised the provincial government’s track record, highlighting what he termed “continuous looting” of the provincial treasury during the PTI-led administration.
He said those responsible for plundering public funds must be held accountable and made to return every penny stolen from taxpayers.
He also referenced major unresolved corruption cases from the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government, including the billion tree tsunami, Peshawar bus rapid transit (BRT), and Malam Jabba scandals. “No action was taken against proven cases of corruption, which indicates tacit approval from the provincial authorities,” he claimed.
“The very party that preached change now finds its own leadership accusing each other of corruption. This shows how deeply rooted the rot has become,” he said.
