In line with the Government of Pakistan and the Federal Board of Revenue’s zero-tolerance policy against smuggling, the Enforcement Collectorate of Customs Karachi on Wednesday seized smuggled fabrics worth over Rs55 million in a major operation.
According to a Customs spokesperson, Collector Customs Enforcement Karachi Moinuddin Ahmed Wani received a tip-off from a sensitive agency regarding a large quantity of foreign-branded smuggled sofa cloth and other fabrics concealed in warehouses at Iqbal Market on MA Jinnah Road.
Wani instructed Deputy Collector Customs Enforcement (ASO) Syed Muhammad Raza Naqvi to conduct a raid on the identified premises. Given the potential for resistance from smugglers, Deputy Collector Naqvi sought assistance from Pakistan Rangers and a sensitive agency to ensure the safety and success of the operation.
The joint raiding team carried out the operation during the late hours of May 20 and early morning of May 21. The total weight of the seized goods was 25,622 kilograms, with an estimated value of Rs55.61 million. The confiscated items were transported to the ASO warehouse.
