PESHAWAR: Speakers at a function on Thursday said hemophilia patients had reduced ability for blood clotting and if not treated in time, children suffering from this blood disorder may face permanent disability.

A special ceremony was held at the Frontier Foundation, like the rest of the world, to mark World Hemophilia Day - April 17, said a press release, adding that the facility provided free treatment to children suffering from blood disorders.

The ceremony was attended by the Chairman of Frontier Foundation, Sahibzada Muhammad Haleem, Administrator Fakhar Zaman, children affected by hemophilia, their parents, and other participants.

Speaking at the event, Sahibzada Haleem stated that more than 3,000 children in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa were affected by hemophilia, while over 1,000 were officially registered. He added that the Frontier Foundation provided free medical treatment to children with blood disorders, including the administration of expensive injections such as Factor VIII and Factor IX at no cost.

Dr Fakhar Zaman explained that hemophilia patients had reduced ability for blood clotting. In case of injuries or accidents, bleeding can only be stopped through injections. “If hemophilia patients are not treated in time, children may face permanent disability,” he added.

He emphasized that the purpose of observing World Hemophilia Day was solely to raise public awareness. “Unless we raise awareness among the public, we cannot ensure a safe future for our children,” he said.
