‘Pakistan’s largest biomethane gas project’ inaugurated in Karachi
KARACHI: Special Assistant to the Chief Minister of Sindh on Investment and Public-Private Partnership Syed Qasim Naveed Qamar inaugurated the first phase of Pakistan’s largest biomethane gas project in Gadap Town, District Malir, Karachi, on Monday.
Speaking as chief guest at the inauguration ceremony, Qamar praised the initiative to produce biomethane gas from cow and buffalo dung. He said that the plant, established by Bio Waste Energy Ventures Private Limited, represents a significant step towards clean and environment-friendly energy solutions.
He emphasised that this environmentally sustainable biomethane gas project would create awareness among dairy industry entrepreneurs about the potential of converting animal waste into useful energy. He highlighted that the initiative would contribute to economic stability in the dairy sector while generating new employment opportunities.
Qamar reiterated that President Asif Ali Zardari and PPP Chairperson Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari have issued clear directives to encourage investments in modern technology projects aimed at economic stability and job creation. He assured that the Sindh government is fully committed to supporting investors in such initiatives.
Furthermore, he mentioned that the Sindh government is providing all possible assistance to dairy farmers engaged in biomethane gas projects. This includes offering a Kibor subsidy on bank loans through the Sindh Enterprise Development Fund (SEDF).
During the ceremony, Chief Executive Officer of Bio Waste Energy Ventures Private Limited Waqas Mohsin provided key insights into the project. He said that the plant has the capacity to produce 23,000 cubic metres of biomethane gas daily and can also generate four to five megawatts (MW) of electricity.
It was also disclosed that, in addition to gas production, heat and ash residues will be utilised to manufacture bricks. The plant will process 380 tonnes of bio-waste daily, with water used in the facility being recycled and reused to ensure sustainability. Sindh Enterprise Development Fund Chief Executive Officer Khizar Pervez and other officials from the Investment Department attended the event.
