PCB chief confirms participation of all major teams in Champions Trophy
LAHORE: Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi has confirmed that the ICC Champions Trophy will be held in Pakistan, with all major teams committed to participating. Naqvi expressed confidence in the arrangements, stating that all necessary preparations have been completed for the prestigious tournament, scheduled for February next year.
Speaking informally to the media, Naqvi reassured that “all the teams will come, and we are in touch with Jay Shah,” referring to the Secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and ICC Chairman. Naqvi further said that Pakistan’s hosting rights for the Champions Trophy remain secure, with no concerns over the tournament.
He also clarified that the upcoming Test series against England will be played in Pakistan with matches slated for Multan and Rawalpindi. Additionally, he shared that efforts are being made to complete the Gaddafi Stadium upgradation project by December 31, with plans to construct a new steel-front building as part of the renovation.
Regarding the future of cricket infrastructure, Naqvi stated that there would be no immediate upgrades to the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium, citing it as an unwise investment at present. Instead, focus will be placed on building a new stadium in Islamabad, modelled after Dubai’s cricket venues. An international-standard stadium will also be constructed in Abbottabad, Naqvi revealed.
