85pc Pakistanis satisfied with their mental health: Gallup

Fifty percent admit to stress in their daily life, mainly due to domestic problems

ISLAMABAD: Eighty-five percent of Pakistanis are satisfied with their mental health, while 14 percent are concerned, says a Gallup Pakistan survey report.

Fifty percent admit to stress in their daily life, mainly due to domestic problems. Lack of money, unemployment, job and health are also among the causes of mental stress. The rate of Pakistanis suffering from mental stress is clearly lower than international opinion.

The majority of Pakistani population described themselves as mentally healthy, but also reported experiencing mental stress for various reasons, the survey says. This was found in a Gallup survey in which 1,000 people participated. The survey was conducted between January 3 and January 17, 2024. On the question how you see your mental health, eighty-five percent of Pakistanis rated their mental health as good. Fourteen percent described it as bad and expressed concern, while 1pc gave no response.

On the question of mental stress in daily life, 50 percent said they have faced mental stress, while 50pc denied it. On the reasons for mental stress, 17pc said their family or domestic problems as the main reason. Fifteen percent said lack of money, 14pc said unemployment, 13pc said their job, 8pc said their health, 3pc said life changes such as changing jobs or homes, 2pc said natural disasters, while 2pc said the world wars are the cause of depression. Twenty-six percent said they don’t know anything about it.

In the survey, the rate of Pakistanis suffering from mental stress was lower than the opinion obtained globally as 79pc suffer from mental stress. However, 21pc deny it.

A total of 24pc of responses received globally cited their job as the main cause of stress, 21pc lack of money, 19pc family problems, 9pc cited their health, 7pc said unemployment, and 6pc cited life problems. Four percent said wars in the world, while 2pc called natural disasters main cause of mental stress and 8pc said they don’t know anything about it.
