34 workers of Tarbela Dam project injured in accident
HARIPUR: As many as 33 workers of Tarbela Dam Extension Project-5 (T-5) and bus driver were injured when the bus they were travelling hit a roadside tree here on Wednesday evening, police and dam sources said.
The injured workers were all Pakistani belonging to Ghazi and Topi tehsils and the cause of the accident was brakes failure, police and dam sources said.The 33 workers were on the way to their dropping points by a staff bus No BE 777 after their routing duty hours in the evening.
When the bus reached near Weth Camp area of the Tarbela Dam, it went out of control of the driver and collided with a roadside tree, injuring all the workers and the driver. The injured workers were shifted to Chinese Hospital in the Tarbela Dam from where four of the critically wounded were shifted to Bacha Khan Medical Complex Swabi, police and Tarbela Dam sources said.
Tarbela 5th Extension Hydropower Project in Ghazi TehsilHaripur district was a component of green, clean and least-cost energy generation plan, WAPDA was implementing. The World Bank is providing US$ 390 million and Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank US$ 300 million for construction of the Project. Electricity generation from the project will start in 2025. With completion of Tarbela 5th Extension, installed capacity at Tarbela Dam will increase from 4888 MW to 6418 MW.
