As the #MeToo movement has gained momentum in Indian film and television industry, several people have faced the backlash of the accusations made against them. One of the biggest cases was against veteran actor Alok Nath. Accused of rape and harassment by director and producer Vinta Nanda, former co-stars Sandhya Mridul, Navneet Nishan and Alia Bhatt’s mother Soni Razdan, Alok Nath has been expelled from Cine and TV Artistes’ Association (CINTAA), reported Times of India.

A statement has been released by CINTAA on twitter:

“In view of the various allegations of sexual harassment and misconduct against Mr. Alok Nath, after due diligence and consideration, the Exec. Committee of #cintaa has decided to expel him from the Association. @sushant_says @renukashahane @FIA_actors @sagaftra @RichaChadha”

The action that has been taken against the actor will lead to the end of the actor’s career.

The notification came after Alok Nath was asked for explanation of the matter in CINTAA meeting in which Vinta Nanda was also present.

“I salute the @CintaaOfficial EC, @sushant_says, @amitbehl1, others who have sent a strong message to the community that we’re governed by a system which cannot be circumvented. It required conviction and courage, the EC has proved that they have mettle”, Vinta Nanda tweeted as a reaction to CINTAA’s decision.

“It took a while... but. We did it...! I hoped but never imagined this day would come. Thank you @CintaaOfficial @sushant_says @vintananda #metoo”, Sandhya Mridul tweeted.

CINTAA functions as a trade union that looks after the rights of the members of the entertainment industry.
