NEW DELHI: Defying old odds, women who survived dreadful acid attacks that have been on a rise in India since the previous years, participated in a fashion show named ‘Power walk’ in an audacious move to uplift their morale.

The primary focus of the event remained the rebirth of self-esteem and confidence amongst these women who valiantly modeled for the organization ‘Make Love Not Scars.’

Clad in intricate gowns donated by high-end designer brands, these nine women walked the ramp with unmatched courage. The gowns were later put on auction to raise funds for these inspiring ladies.

Attacked by either their husbands or close family members, the victims had successfully managed to redeem their lives by the help of the said organization.

'People often looked away when I went outside. They would walk in the opposite direction when they saw me. I would face a lot of problems,' Khatoon, one of the victims, shared.

'But then one day I thought, if that's the way you think, so be it. I have to build my life, I want my son to study and I have to support him.'

Khatoon now runs her own small business fixing mobile phones.
