LOS ANGELES: It was an awkward moment for the cast and crew of La La Land when they were announced the winner of the Best Picture award. The error was subsequently clarified and the Moonlight crew took to the stage to claim their plaques.
Things can certainly go wrong, even at the grandest stage of them all. As La La Land swept the Academy Awards at the Oscars, many expected them to win the Best Picture award also. Things went awry when Warren Beatty pronounced La La Land the winner of Best Picture award when in fact, the winner was Moonlight.

The producer of La La Land quickly came to the microphone and showed everyone the winner's card, stating clearly the name of Moonlight. Beckoning his friends from Moonlight to take the stage, he clarified that it was not a prank.
"No, it's not a joke. Moonlight has won Best Picture award. Come on up," he said.
Host and comedian Jimmy Kimmel tried to avoid the embarrassment by stating that La La Land deserved to win an Oscar and said that both films deserved to win. In the end, the crew of Moonlight took to the stage and gave their speeches, obviously delighted at the 'surprise' win.
Mahershala Ali won his first Oscar on Sunday for his supporting role in "Moonlight," kicking off what could be a big night for diversity at the Academy Awards.
Ali, 43, who played the mentor to a young black boy in "Moonlight," was one of a record seven actors of color nominated for Oscars this year, along with films that ranged from overlooked African-American female math geniuses ("Hidden Figures") to interracial marriage ("Loving") and black incarceration rates in modern U.S. society ("13th").
