Why Bryan Cranston initially rejected Aaron Paul's business idea
Bryan Cranston's hesitancy stemmed from a past bad experience
After the hit Breaking Bad, Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul met, and Paul pitched him on a partnership to create a mezcal and tequila brand.
But the 70-year-old was hesitant at the time; he now recalls in an interview with People.
However, the Emmy-winning actor has a reason, recounting, “Aaron and I ... got used to working so closely together and enjoyed each other’s company, but then Breaking Bad ended and he got a job here, I got on over here, and life sets in and just has a way of dictating what’s going to happen.“
"So three years after the end of Breaking Bad, all of a sudden, I said, ‘Aaron, where are you now?’ and he goes, ‘I’m in New York,’ so I said, ‘I’m in New York! When did you get in?’ and he said, ‘Just today,’ so I replied, ‘Oh, are you free?’ and we got dinner.”
“So we’re at a sushi bar and we’re talking, and he said, ‘You know what we ought to do?’ I said, ‘What?’ — because it was too early to work together again since the Breaking Bad characters were very indelible — and he said, ‘We ought to start a mezcal company,’ and I said, ‘Wow, that’s a terrible idea. Why would we do that?’ “ continues the award-winning star with a laugh.
He continued, “I had a bad experience with mezcal when I was young. I tasted one and thought, ‘Oh God, I don’t ever, ever want to taste that again.’ It was a bad mezcal. But he took me to a mezcal bar and I’m there sipping different mezcals, and I went, ‘My God, these are great. These are delicious,’ “ adds Cranston. “I realized for 40-some odd years, I pushed it away because I had a bad one.”
“Now in the business of mezcal and tequila, we say, ‘Whatever you do, make it great,’" the star stated.
"No sweeteners, no glycerins, no colorings, no additives of any kind — just make it pure and make it great, and people will find you. That’s what Dos Hombres is.”
