OpenAI takes action against three researchers over sensitive information
OpenAI fires three safety researchers over alleged breach of confidentiality
OpenAI confirmed it has parted ways with three researchers stating they mishandled sensitive information, and violated the company’s policies for handling confidential data.
According to the Wall Street Journal, the employees allegedly shared confidential company information with a third-party AI-safety organization.
OpenAI spokesperson released a statement, “We have parted ways with three individuals for violating our policies on accessing and handling sensitive company information.”
“Our investigation confirmed that these individuals mishandled sensitive information outside established company procedures, violating our policies and breaking the trust essential to our work.”
The company has been experiencing pressure over its handling of AI-safety issues after its disclosure that rogue agents breached Hugging Face after bypassing the network isolation controls. The company recently backed autonomous evaluations of safety cases with an idea, an approach that has gained widespread industry traction.
OpenAI is committed to empowering objective assessments with extensive access across training, evaluation and deployment.
“That access should enable assessors to challenge our assumptions, identify risks we may have missed, and reach their own conclusions about the effectiveness of our safeguards,” the company further added.
