Piers Morgan makes strong demand as Manchester City awaits sanctions

Piers Morgan has responded to Manchester City’s financial charges as the club was found guilty on 114 of the 115 charges in a landmark legal case.

The ongoing controversy surrounding Manchester City centres on a major sporting case involving 115 alleged breaches of Premier League financial rules spanning the 2009-10 through 2017-18 seasons.

Taking to X, the renowned broadcaster made a strong demand as the club awaits sanctions.

Morgan wrote, “Let’s be clear: Manchester City have been found guilty of being the biggest cheats in English football history, and the punishment must fit their crimes.”

“At very minimum, they must be relegated from the Premier League and stripped of all fraudulently ‘won’ titles.”

The recent verdict is based on a lengthy independent commission process in which they found the club guilty of several charges falling into several categories, such as failure to provide accurate financial information, details for player and manager payments.

It also includes violation of Premier League Profitability and Sustainability rules, non compliance with UEFA financial regulations and failure to cooperate with Premier League investigations.

Legal advice is being sought by Premier League clubs regarding potential compensation tied to Manchester City's charges, and BBC Sport understands the club intends to appeal.

Official sanctions are yet to be announced, but there are potential penalties that the club could face. They can experience massive points deductions, possible expulsion from the Premier League or relegation besides heavy financial penalties.
