Bay City Rollers guitarist Neil Henderson passes away

Neil Henderson, famed for his contributions to music as a guitarist for Bay City Rollers, has breathed his last.

The musician’s death was announced by fellow Scottish band Middle Of The Road, who he also worked as a guitarist with.

In a statement shared on Facebook, his former bandmates said Henderson’s memory would live on through his music.

They wrote, “We are sorry to have to announce the death of Neil Henderson, our original lead guitarist, songwriter and friend. Neil had been ill for some time and was fighting to recover from a stroke a few years ago.”

“We wish to send our sincere condolences to Heather and Shona, his two daughters, and all his family and friends,” the members added.

“His memory will live on with all who had the pleasure of sharing the stage with him as will his music.”

Henderson was part of the Bay City Rollers for two years from 1970, performing on their debut chart single Keep On Dancing.

However, he left the Scottish pop rock band not long before the release of their debut album Rollin’ in 1974, which debuted atop the UK Album Charts and spent a combined total of 58 weeks on the chart.

He then went on to join Middle Of The Road, who also found success a few years earlier with the number one song Chirpy Chirpy Cheep Cheep.

Neil Henderson is survived by his two daughters, Heather and Shona.
