Sylvester Stallone blindsided by Trump naming him Hollywood ambassador
Sylvester Stallone recalls how he learned about the post he was set to head
Last year, Sylvester Stallone, according to his own account, was watching TV when the news hit him.
He, along with fellow actors Mel Gibson and Jon Voight, was appointed Hollywood ambassador.
President Donald Trump was behind the decision.
But now the Rocky Star told The Sunday Times he was never asked about the post, and if he had been, he would have declined.
He explained, "Because of Hollywood, I guess it’s like feudal states,” adding that is why ambassadorship was "impossible".
The Oscar winner continued, “They have their little kingdoms. You don’t go in and tell six studios how to do things."
"And Mel Gibson and Jon Voight, we’re kind of do-our-own-thing people. No, it won’t work.”
He noted, “I said thank you and ciao, because it’s impossible. Hollywood works and it will evolve."
Describing Hollywood as a soup of corporate world, Stallone added, "It’s corporate, and corporate people won’t want to hear me tell them about finance.”
And most importantly, the Rocky Star said Trump's announcement blindsided him.
“Well, it just happened. I was watching TV one night, and they go, ‘So Stallone and Mel Gibson and Jon Voight will be,'" he recalled.
“And I went, ‘What?’ I said, ‘Excuse me? Really?’ Because if they had asked me in the beginning, I would have said, This is not possible."
However, despite Stallone's resignation, he did not end up leaving the post.
