‘Never complain, never explain’: Here's what happened to royal strategy after ‘Swan Song’

The Royal Family’s mantra ‘never complain, never explain’ has been one of their most tried and tested recipes — but more recently that was thrown out the window.

There are some comments online about people saying ‘Spare walked so Swan Song could run’, which is a direct praise of Charles Spencer’s book as well as Prince Harry’s.

However, how did that come to pass? The answer comes from Charles’s former communications secretary Julian Payne, during his chat for BBC’s Today programme.

He’s said, “this is a much more personal situation, given its author, and therefore has a greater ability to do harm.” In his view this is precisely why the Palace “felt the need to set the record straight and deny these remarks have been made.”

For those unversed with the history between King Charles and Princess Diana—Charles’ Spencer’s sister, and the woman whom this book describes, the marriage was no fairytale. She’s even once been quoted saying to BBC Panorama, “there were three of us in this marriage, so it was a bit crowded.”

As for the allegations already dropped by the upcoming book, they claimed King Charles hissed on the day of her funeral, and said, "rest assured, we'll forget her soon enough.”

Another allegation by Diana’s brother also claims, “nlike my other callers, who were stunned, barely able to articulate their condolences and offers of help, he sounded giddily elated - like a lottery winner, I remember thinking at the time.”

What’s also pertinent to mention is that the current Queen of England was once one of the most hated women in Britian because of the fact that she was exposed for having hand an affair with King Charles, back when he was still married.
