Harry Melling, Jodie Comer shares ‘terrifying’ reality of their musical debut

Harry Melling and Jodie Comer opened up about the demands of their musical debut.

Jodie and Harry are starring opposite each other in the upcoming musical romance, Stuffed.

The film marked Jodie's first ever foray with a musical, in a recent interview with People Magazine, she reflected on her experience, stating, “I was quite surprised actually how vulnerable a space it is to sing in front of people. I’d wanted to do a musical for a long time, and then actually being met with the reality of it was a very, very different thing.”

She went on to say, “But [it was] amazing to put yourself in a situation of the unfamiliar. The unknown can be terrifying, but I think also very invigorating.”

“Completely,” her co-star acknowledged.

Harry also reflected on his own first experience and how sharing it with Jodie made it extra special. The British actor stated, “And what was so nice about it was the fact that both myself and Jodie were kind of going on this journey together. So it was quite terrifying, but we knew that the other person was probably experiencing the same fear, and that made it a very special process to go on.”

Jodie’s on screen co-star also opened up about how he was instantly attracted towards the musical, “You’d start reading it, and then you’d pause and listen to the song, and then you’d go back to the script.”

He added, “So it was a very unique way of being introduced to this world. And even the log line itself — taxidermy musical — you kind of had me at that to be honest.”

“It makes you sit down immediately. I remember reading that, and being like, ‘Looks like I’m reading this script right now, drop everything,’" Harry further added.

It is worth noting here that the film’s songs are mainly performed by Harry and Jodie themselves including live singing as well.

Jodie revealed the challenges two actors faced while filming and performing live. “We pre-recorded the songs and we also sang live, so you’re just kind of drilling really and re-going over. Also, what you can’t prepare for, because you’re also singing live, you have an earpiece in.”

“So in acting, everything’s about being so present to a moment, and yet when you’re singing, you’re also having to have another awareness, which inevitably kind of takes you out of the present moment. And nothing can prepare you for that until you’re actually on set and doing it.”

Noting, “So there was never a dull day.”

“You’re just kind of learning as you go along really. But like I said, we were so held and encouraged, so that was really helpful. There was a lot of patience given, I feel,” she noted further.

For those unaware, Stuffed was world premiered on September 10, 2026. However its release date remains unconfirmed.
