Tom Cruise's upcoming movie 'Digger' social media rumour debunked

Tom Cruise's forthcoming movie, Digger, has already stirred a lot of attention about the actor's transformation.

That is surreal because it is the film he did probably right after one of the last Mission: Impossible installments, where he threw off a bike from a sky-high cliff.

But that is not what some social media users are talking about. Instead, they believe Digger is something it hasn't shared so far: a musical.

This rumour gained traction after the movie's trailer showed singing in certain scenes.

Given that Alejandro G. Iñárritu is directing the black comedy, who has already helmed Birdman, The Revenant and Babel, speculation was already reportedly fanning.

But unexpectedly, another director, Guillermo del Toro, jumped into the scene and quashed the rumour with a single tweet and notably with brief words.

"Music? It's not... But it's great," he wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter.

It appears Del Toro has previewed Digger, which may explain why he debunked the rumour.

But there aren't official reviews yet, which fuels speculation that the director has seen it and is sharing a positive assessment.

Meanwhile, Digger Rockwell, a role Cruise played in his upcoming movie, proved challenging.

"I have never had something that could challenge me in this way. And neither has Alejandro when we went in – ever. When you see this film, it's totally original," he previously said.

Digger opens in cinemas on Oct. 2.
