Ex-Louisiana mayor Misty Roberts complete 90-day sentence for raping 16-year-old boy
Roberts finished her sentence on Monday, a week after Judge Kent Savoie rejected prosecutors’ request for a harsher punishment
Former Louisiana mayor Misty Roberts has been released from custody after completing a 90-day jail sentence for sexually assaulting a 16-year-old boy while she was in office.
The 44-year-old finished her sentence on Monday, a week after Judge Kent Savoie rejected prosecutors’ request for a harsher punishment.
Roberts faced up to 17 years in prison after a jury convicted her in March of carnal knowledge of a juvenile and indecent behaviour with a minor.
Prosecutors established that Roberts sexually assaulted the teenager after they drank alcohol at a pool party at her home in July 2024. The victim was a high school student and friend of Roberts’ son.
Roberts was mayor of DeRidder at the time and resigned shortly before her arrest in August 2024.
Her 90-day sentence sparked criticism from residents. Roberts must also register as a sex offender, pay $5,000 in fines, undergo regular drug screenings and receive therapy.
At sentencing, Roberts told the court, according to KPLC: “I blame myself then, I blame myself today and I will blame myself for the rest of my life. I let a lot of people down, and I am the only person responsible for that.”
