King Charles releases letter to clarify his position on Prince Harry, Meghan Markle after UK move
"There is no change to the current status of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry"
King Charles has issued an official guidance regarding Meghan Markle and Prince Harry after they returned to Britain recently.
The palace has released a letter on behalf of the King to guide on Meghan and Harry’s royal status.
Royal expert Emily Ferguson took to X, formerly Twitter handle and shared the palace statement, saying, “BREAKING: The King has issued official guidance now that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have returned to the UK.
“Harry and Meghan are private citizens and their HRH titles remain in abeyance, he has said, adding that any security queries should be directed to individual police forces.”
The Sun has also reported that palace, on behalf of King Charles, says Harry and Meghan are not working royals despite their bombshell return to the UK.
The guidance shared confirmed Meghan and Harry’s charity work is a “personal matter” and their position is “akin to private citizens”.
The King’s letter read: “It is well known that in January 2020 the Duke and Duchess stepped down from undertaking representative duties on behalf of The Sovereign, and are no longer working Members of The Royal Family.
“This position, distinct from the State and Royal duties undertaken by the working Royal Family, and with the personal latitude it brings the couple in respect of financial independence and protection of their privacy as they would wish, will continue to be fully respected.”
It further said, “It follows that there is no change to the current status of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.
“Their styles as His and Her Royal Highness remain in abeyance and are not used.”
Moreover, “The charitable work of the Duke and Duchess is a personal matter for them both and undertaken in their private capacity. In short, their position is akin to private citizens with commercial and charitable interests.”
