Russia signals possible return to Ukraine peace talks with US
On weekend, US negotiators teve Witkoff and Jared Kushner visited Moscow and Kyiv to discuss peace plan
Russia in the latest development has spoken about its intentions regarding the resumptions of the trilateral peace talks with Ukraine and the United States.
On Monday, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov told reporters, “We, too, do not rule out the resumption of the trilateral format, but it is too early to say anything about the venue or the exact dates at this stage.”
"Undoubtedly, any attempts...represent a small step towards peace, and we truly hold the peace-building efforts of the American negotiators in very high regard. President Putin himself has said that he holds President Trump’s efforts in high regard, and that he is grateful to President Trump for his commitment to this path towards peace," Peskov added.
The remarks from the Kremlin comes after the US envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner visited Moscow on Saturday in the latest push for peace talks aimed at ending years-long conflict with Kyiv.
On weekends, Russian president Vladimir Putin held a three-hour meeting with the US negotiators to discuss the possible ways to resolve the conflict with Ukraine. Although no concrete breakthrough came out of these discussions, the Kremlin called this meeting “constructive.”
On Sunday, Witkoff and Kushner visited Kyiv to discuss the peace plan. After the Kyiv meetings, Witkoff said he was “confident that there’ll be a good resolution here.”
“One thing Steve (Witkoff) and I really thought would be productive is to go back to the trilateral format, which we were able to do about six months ago,” Kushner said, as reported by CNN.
Ukrainian president Zelenskyy also said every meeting like this will bring us closer to that goal.
