5 killed, several injured after Amazon cargo jet overruns runway at Miami Airport

An Amazon Prime Air cargo jet overran a runway at Miami International Airport, crashing into nearby vehicles and bursting into flames, leaving at least five people dead with several injured.

The flight, operating as Prime Air Flight 7598 and managed by cargo carrier 21 Air, arrived from San Juan, Puerto Rico, before failing to stop on the airport's diagonal runway.

According to Miami-Dade officials, the 32-year-old Boeing 767 freighter breached the runway safety zone, collided with multiple ground vehicles near a perimeter roadway, and erupted in heavy black smoke.

Emergency responders deployed over 60 units to the scene, battling active flames and handling persistent fuel leaks while rescuing trapped occupants from the cockpit and crushed automobiles.

Five individuals sustained injuries alongside the five fatalities, with multiple victims rushed to local trauma centers in critical condition.

The catastrophic incident forced a temporary ground stop and the total closure of all runways and taxiways at Miami International Airport, disrupting hundreds of flights.

Federal transportation investigators have deployed to South Florida to probe the precise sequence of events that led to a fatal runway excursion at Miami International Airport involving an Amazon Prime Air cargo flight. 

The incident, which occurred when a Boeing 767-300 freighter operated by 21 Air failed to stop within the designated landing zone, breached perimeter safety areas and collided with multiple vehicles on a nearby roadway.  

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) have also launched comprehensive investigations to determine the sequence of events, runway conditions, and landing telemetry that led to the disaster.
