Call of Duty: Warzone is leaving Xbox One, PS4: Here's when

Call of Duty: Warzone is running out of time on old hardware. Activision confirmed back in May that the free-to-play battle royale will stop working on Xbox One and PS4 once Black Ops 7's sixth season wraps up, and the reason comes down to one game: Modern Warfare 4.

Warzone doesn’t force players to buy the latest version of Call of Duty. But still, Warzone will be related to whatever is going on at the moment. Modern Warfare 4 will be released on October 23rd on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Switch 2, and PC, but without any last-gen consoles for the very first time in the series’ history.

Call of Duty: Warzone shutdown date

No official date has been announced yet by Activision, but the pattern is quite clear to see. Black Ops 6 and Black Ops 7 began their respective first seasons 20 days after release, while Windows Central believes that Black Ops 7 Season 6 will start on September 17, the same day that Black Ops 7's battle pass ends.

Assuming that this season lasts for its regular duration, Warzone last-gen could remain playable till November 12, which would be around three weeks after the release of Modern Warfare 4. Until then, nothing can be said for sure.

Notably, every Warzone purchase is tied to a player's Activision ID rather than a specific console, so logging in on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, or PC brings all of the data along automatically.

Xbox One owners without a next-gen console still have a workaround: cloud streaming through Xbox Cloud Gaming or Nvidia GeForce.
