Earthquake near Ontario shakes parts of Southern California

A preliminary 3.4 magnitude earthquake struck Southern California near the city of Ontario early Wednesday morning, according to the US Geological Survey.

The earthquake hit at about 5:37 AM, with its epicenter approximately 3.7 miles southeast of Ontario in the Inland Empire, the USGS reported.

Shaking from the earthquake was reported across several parts of Southern California. According to the USGS interactive map, tremors may have been felt as far away as Irvine, Anaheim, Menifee, Riverside, San Bernardino and West Covina.

San Bernardino County officials also asked residents on social media whether they had felt the earthquake.

More than 220 people submitted responses to the USGS Felt Report following the quake, with most reporting light shaking.

There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries following Wednesday morning's earthquake.

The 3.4 magnitude measurement remains preliminary and could be revised as the USGS analyses additional seismic data.
