Houston schools closed on September 1 as Tropical Storm Edouard threatens flooding

Several Houston-area school districts have cancelled classes for Tuesday, September 1, as Tropical Storm Edouard approaches Southeast Texas with the threat of heavy rain and flooding.

According to KHOU 11, Anahuac, Channelview, Cleveland, Crosby, Dayton, Galena Park, Hardin, Huffman and Humble independent school districts have announced closures.

Crenshaw School in Galveston ISD will also be closed, with no bus service operating to or from Bolivar.

The closures come as Tropical Storm Edouard could bring several inches of rain, strong winds and potentially dangerous flooding to parts of the Houston area.

The greatest impacts are expected from Tuesday into Wednesday.

Heavy rainfall could make roads hazardous for students, school buses and employees, while strong winds could lead to power outages.

School districts may make different decisions depending on local conditions as Edouard's track and intensity develop.

Parents and students are being urged to check directly with their school districts for the latest information on classes, transport and extracurricular activities.

KHOU 11 said it is tracking closures, delayed starts, early dismissals and cancellations and will update its list as additional announcements are made.
