Six Flags X2 ride closed after two women suffer severe brain haemorrhages

A roller coaster at Six Flags Magic Mountain in California is under investigation after two women suffered severe brain haemorrhages within six days of riding it in July.

According to CNN, the X2 roller coaster at the Valencia theme park has remained closed since July 12 as regulators investigate whether the ride could be connected to the injuries.

One of the women remains in critical condition and in a coma, while the other underwent emergency surgery and is now relearning basic skills, the report said.

Investigators have not established that X2 caused the injuries or determined that the roller coaster is defective or unsafe.

The investigation remains ongoing and regulators have not released their findings.

The X2 coaster has previously been the subject of documented warnings, investigations and legal allegations.

However, no official connection between those earlier concerns and the two recent injuries has been established.

Six Flags Magic Mountain opened as Magic Mountain in Valencia, California, in May 1971 and is one of the company's oldest theme parks still operating.

Shares of Six Flags Entertainment Corporation are up about 5.2% so far this year, but remain below highs reached in mid-June.
