Gwyneth Paltrow claps back at critics over Sam Altman dinner invite backlash

Gwyneth Paltrow has broken her silence on recent online criticism after reports suggested she was planning a private dinner event honouring OpenAI CEO Sam Altman.

An industry newsletter Puck announced that invitations were reportedly being sent out for a private, "off-the-record" dinner at her home in the Hamptons in Altman's honour. 

The report quickly spread online, leading to massive backlash, with some social media users criticising Paltrow for the event, branding her “a villain“ and “tone-deaf."

Comedian-activist Matt Bernstein posted a video suggesting that her affiliations with artificial intelligence amount to “technofascism.” 

In response, Paltrow shared her own satirical versions of the invitation on social media, replacing Altman's name with references to fictional and internet-famous characters instead. 

In the five replicas she shared, Altman was replaced by “M3GAN,” “Samantha Jones,” “SHREK,” “Jessica Rabbit” and “Chanty Beluga.”

She added a joking caption about the imagined dinner menu, seemingly poking fun at the controversy.

However, most netizens did not find it humorous and went on to criticise her further.

Some social media users also speculated that the original invitation image may have been created using AI rather than being an authentic document.

This isn't the first time Paltrow has engaged with viral internet moments. Earlier, she appeared in an advertisement for a tech company Astonomer after an unrelated public incident involving its former executives.

In June, Paltrow made headlines for hosting billionaire military tech entrepreneur Trae Stephens on her Goop podcast, during which the two discussed Stephens’ plan to build up America’s military arsenal.
