Humanoid robots malfunction at Beijing’s 2026 World Robot Conference

Humanoid robots at a major robotics conference in Beijing mesmerized the crowd after some machines malfunctioned during demonstrations.

The World Robot Conference 2026 was held in Beijing on August 19 where several humanoid robots malfunctioned publicly, one twisted on its back, another crashed into a cushion during a demo.

These technical hitches disrupted the presentations of robot dogs and helper arms, underscoring control and balance challenges even as other units finished the task successfully.

The event runs through August 23 with the World Humanoid Robot Games starting on August 22 where over 2,000 robots will compete in athletics.

The video is gaining traction on social platform X with one user writing, “The robot Olympics are already getting competitive! Maybe it needs a little more practice before race day.”

Second added, “The purpose of robot sports competitions is to push things to their limits, expose problems, and make improvements. These scenes are hilarious, but for engineers, they are truly invaluable experiences.”

Nonetheless, when the robots start going rogue it's time to check the remote. Despite the fact technology may be impressive, it still needs humans in control.
